Hayes to Compete in U.S. Mid-Amateur

John Hayes of Purpoodock Club will compete this week in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in Massachusetts. Hayes, 31, earned medalist honors earlier this month in Connecticut to earn a spot in the U.S. Mid-Amateur in Nantucket on September 25-30. Competing at Indian Ridge CC in Newington, CT, Hayes shot a round of 66 (-6) to lead all scorers and advance to the Mid-Am for the second time in his career.

This national championship will consist of 36 holes of stroke play qualifying from the field of 264 players. After two rounds, the low 64 players will advance to match play. The host course this year is Sankaty Head, which will be used for stroke play and all match play rounds. Miacomet CC will serve as the secondary course for stroke play qualifying.

Hayes is a past winner of the Maine Junior, Amateur, Mid-Amateur, and Match Play Championships. This is the fourth USGA championship in his playing career. Hayes tees of at 8:58 am on Saturday and 1:08 pm on Sunday.
