Plummer Leads After Day 1 at Maine Senior Amateur
VASSALBORO – The first round of the 2021 Maine Senior Amateur Championship took place at Natanis Golf Course today, and a familiar face is atop the leaderboard, with longtime MSGA champion Mark Plummer taking the early lead with a first round 71 (-1). The 69-year old from Manchester is looking for his seventh Senior Amateur title this week, to go with his past wins in 2007, ’08, ’11, ’12, ’17, and ’19.
Next back on the leaderboard is the current leader on the year-long Senior Player of the Year race entering this championship, Keith Patterson, who opened with 73. The Biddeford-Saco CC member played alongside Plummer today and will join him again in tomorrow’s final pairing with fellow BSCC member Mike O’Brien, who opened with a score of 74. Glenn Furth (Augusta CC) and Marke Wilcox (Turner Highlands GC) sit tied for third with O’Brien on 74.
In addition to the overall championship, players are competing this week in four divisions based on age. Players will compete for gross and net prizes in the following divisions: Age 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+. Additionally, the top 6 players (and ties) from this week’s event will earn an automatic invite to the Senior Match Play Invitational next month at Prouts Neck GC.
Tomorrow’s second and final round will commence at 7:00 am tomorrow morning again on Natanis’ Tomahawk course.
