Maine Junior Championship Round 1 Recap
The 2021 Maine Junior Championship gets going this week at Fairlawn GC. Golfers aged 18 and younger will tee it up on August 4-5 in hopes of claiming the title in their respective age divisions.
Round 1 Recap:
POLAND – The first round of the 2021 Maine Junior Championship is in the books after the field took to Fairlawn GC for day one of this tournament. Eli Spaulding had the round of the day, shooting a bogey-free 66 to set the pace. The 15-year old from Freeport made twelve pars and six birdies on the day. He leads both the overall championship and the Boys 14-15 flight.
Parker Hilchey had the only other under par round of the day, carding a 71 (-1) to take the lead in the Boys 16-18 flight. Joe Hansen has the lead in the Boys 12-13 flight after shooting 75.
On the girls side, Ruby Haylock is the frontrunner after shooting an opening 74. She holds a four stroke lead over Morghan Dutil, who carded an opening 78. In the Girls 14-15 flight, Jade Haylock leads the way after a first round 83.
In the nine hole division, Drew Mertzel leads the boys after an opening 37 on Fairlawn’s back nine. Niamh O’Brien is ahead in the girls division with a score of 44.
