Haylock, Ruffing Win Mixed Championship

Aug 1, 2021

The 2021 Mixed Championship took place at Willowdale GC in Scarborough on Sunday, August 1. In this always exciting event, teams of one male and one female golfer will participate in a modified alternate shot 18-hole tournament. In this format, both players tee off and then hit their partner's ball. At that point, the team selects one ball to complete the hole in with alternating strokes.

When the dust settled, the duo of Ruby Haylock (Turner Highlands CC) and Luke Ruffing (Belgrade Lakes) took down the overall title with a score of 67 (-3). The two players teamed up for five birdies on the day, including one on the last hole that ended up being the difference. They bested runners-up Jordan Laplume (Dunegrass CC) and Greg Kalagias (Biddeford-Saco CC) by one stroke. Kristin & Will Kannegieser (Portland CC) finished tied for third with Bailey Plourde and Hans Stromberg (Sheepscot Links GC) at 69.

Dave Harris and Kathy Stevens (Freeport CC) tied with Kathleen & Richard Lombardo to take the net title with a score of 62.

Thanks to all the teams that competed in this fun-filled event, and thanks to Willowdale CC for being great hosts for the day!
