Biddeford-Saco and Falmouth Claim Senior Club Team
The MSGA Championship season wrapped up on Monday of this week with the 2020 Senior Club Team Championship at Belgrade Lakes GC. This year, the event was postponed due to the coronavirus, but the golf course was able to accommodate the event in late September. The day started with some light rain, but the full field of teams was able to play all day under mostly cloudy skies in this always exciting tournament.
The Senior Club Team Championship features a 2-of-4 ball format, with teams taking the best two scores on each hole to count as the team score. When the dust settled and the field was all finished, two teams finished tied for the overall championship with a score of 130 (-12).
A team from Falmouth CC was the first to post the -12 number, comprised of Len Cole, Gary Manoogian, Brian McAlary and Cash Wiseman. Playing just a few groups behind them was the team of Ron Dery, Scott Dewitt, Mike O’Brien and Keith Patterson, representing Biddeford-Saco CC. The two teams finished as co-champions for the 2020 title and ended up a staggering seven shots clear of third place.
A quartet of teams finished tied for third at -5. They were teams from Boothbay Harbor CC, Brunswick GC, Martindale CC and Purpoodock Club.
While the MSGA Championship season is now done for the year, there are still plenty of Play Days on the schedule for October, so it’s not time to hang the clubs up for the season quite yet!
The MSGA would like to thank all of the competitors of not just this event, but in all of our championships this season for a great year despite all of the challenges that 2020 has brought us. We would also like to thank all of the host courses for our championships and regular events, as without the great tracks that our players get to compete on, we wouldn’t be able to run these tournaments for the golfers of Maine.
