Brunswick and Martindale Win Club Team Title
BELGRADE LAKES – The Club Team Championship is usually the first championship of the MSGA season, held annually at Belgrade Lakes GC in late May. This year, the event was postponed due to the coronavirus, but the golf course was able to accommodate the event in late September. The full field of teams were treated to a great day at the scenic central Maine course in this always popular event.
The Club Team Championship features a 2-of-4 ball format, with teams taking the best two scores on each hole to count as the team score. At the end of the day, two teams tied for the overall championship with a score of 132 (-10). Representing Martindale CC, Joe Baker, Craig Champman, Jace Pearson, and Andrew Slattery were the first team in the house at -10, making two clutch birdies on the final hole to take the early lead.
Their lead held for a while before the team from Brunswick GC made a late charge to grab a share of the lead. The team of Mike Doran, Caleb Manuel, Brown Martin, and Garrett Olson worked together to earn the first victory in this event for Brunswick.
Third place went to the team from Portland CC at -8, comprised of Art Batson, Jay Flower, Jason Gall, and Curtis Jordan. Fourth place was Waterville CC at -7 from Drew Glasheen, Nick Pelotte, Paul Wiggin, and Jeff Willet. Rounding out the top 5 was The Woodlands Club, comprised of Chris King, Scott Sirois, Scott Weymouth, and Ryan Wingard.
The MSGA Championship season concludes today with the Senior Club Team Championship hosted by Belgrade Lakes GC again. The event features the same format as the Club Team, except that all teams are comprised of players aged 55 and older.
