Janet Drouin Memorial Championship
The 2020 Janet Drouin Memorial is being played today at Natanis GC. This event is a tournament dedicated to the memory of Janet Drouin, a true champion of women's golf with a particular emphasis on helping junior girls. The purpose of the tournament is to raise money for the Janet Drouin Fund. And what better way to do that than on the golf course? The Fund is used to offer financial support to female members of the MSGA, such as paying for a nurse or teacher's recertification class to sending a junior girl to a regional or national event.
This year's JDM is an 18-hole stroke play event for both gross and net players contested at Natanis Golf Course, Janet's home course. When registration closed, the tournament had already taken in upwards of $1600 for the JDF. Today we will be accepting more donations and running a 50/50 raffle to add to the total. Players went out loosely by handicap, with the final groups featuring some of Maine's best golfers, including three who have already won majors this summer: Ruby Haylock, Maine Women's Amateur; Lindsay Cote, Maine Junior Championship; and Bailey Plourde, Maine Mixed Championship.
