Brennan Earns Medalist Honors at Poland Spring Qualifier
POLAND, ME – What a difference a year can make. One year after the Maine Amateur qualifier at Poland Spring was postponed due to torrential storms, players were treated to a bluebird day at the third of four qualifiers at the same venue as last year’s washout. The scores reflected the perfect weather, as 22 players earned a berth into next month’s Maine Amateur Championship at Biddeford-Saco CC.
Leading all scorers was Mike Brennan (Norway CC), who shot 66 to earn medalist honors at today’s qualifier. Next best was Alex Robert (Martindale CC) with 68, followed by Poland Spring home club member Daniel Bouttenot at 69. Scoring was great all day long, and the cut fell at 76 for today’s event at the par-71 Donald Ross layout.
The field is now almost complete for the 101st Maine Amateur Championship. The fourth and final qualifier will take place on Thursday, June 18 at Bangor Municipal, where the final 16 spots in the championship proper are up for grabs. Biddeford-Saco CC will host the state’s premier amateur golf event on July 7-9 for the fourth time in club history.
