Kannegiesers Defend Title at Mixed Championship

Jun 10, 2019

POLAND – It seems as if Kristin and Will Kannegieser have found a format of golf that they excel at. For the second straight year the mother and son duo from Martindale CC have claimed the Mixed Championship. Playing in a modified alternate shot format, the Kannegiesers shot a blistering score of 65 (-7) at Fairlawn GC to win the title by six strokes and successfully defend their title from Cape Arundel GC last year.

In this format, both players hit drives from the appropriate tee and then play their partner's ball for the second shot. One ball is then selected and players alternate shots until the ball is holed. During their round, their play was as hot as the sun that players were treated to on Sunday, making a total of six birdies and one eagle against only one dropped shot. The highlight of the round came on the reachable par-4 9th hole, where Will hit a 2-iron off the tee just short of the green and set up a subsequent chip-in from Kristin to help the side post an incredible 31 on the outward nine.

The side of Jordan Laplume and Cooper Nadeau tied with Ruth Colucci and Scott Dewitt to finish as the runners-up after scores of 70 (-1).

On the net side for the overall field, father and daughter duo Mark and Paige Henderson narrowly won with a score of 61 (-10), edging Tom and Wendy Bean by one stroke.

Lastly, in the Couples division where married teams compete as a side, the Beans were the champions with a gross score of 71 (E). Micki and Bill Meggison tied for low net honors with SueEllen and Edward Chamberlain, both carding 66 (-6).
