Maine Collegians to Compete at NCAA Div. III Championship
This week the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Championships take place on May 14-17 in Kentucky and Texas, and Maine is represented in both tournaments with some talented young golfers competing for a national title.
The Women's Championship is being contested at Bay Oaks CC in Houston, TX, and while no Maine schools are competing in the event, defending Maine Women's Amateur champion Bailey Plourde is competing as an individual representing Centre College. After the opening round on Tuesday, Plourde is leading the entire field of 131 players after an opening 71 (-1).

The Men's Championship takes place at Keene Trace GC in Nicholasville, KY, and Maine is represented by six players in the field representing themselves and their schools. In all, the field consists of 42 teams and six individuals, for a total of 216 participants. Team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play. After the first 36 holes, the field will be cut down to the top 18 teams and the top six individuals not on those teams.
Maine has one school based in the state competing in the event, with Husson University appearing in this national championship for the 12th time in the last 13 years via winning the North Atlantic Conference and earning an automatic berth. Maine natives playing for Husson this week are Eric Dugas, Gavin Dugas, Taylor Morang, and Daulton Wickenden.
There are also two Maine golfers playing on the Endicott College (MA) team this week. They are Chris Billings and Kenny Tuttle.
