Wyman Leads Mid-Amateur After Round 1
Wyman Leads After 1st Round of Mid-Amateur Championship
For immediate release: September 22, 2018
NEWRY – Jack Wyman (Portland CC) has been the player to beat in MSGA championships of late, and today proved no different in the first round of the 2018 Mid-Amateur Championship. The southpaw from Portland CC has won the Maine Amateur Championship the last two years, and finds himself leading again at an MSGA championship after an opening round or even par 72 at Sunday River CC today .
After a summer of heat that lasted longer than most in Maine, today’s event felt like a proper fall day, as players played in cold temperatures and high winds. The weather didn’t derail Wyman, who rattled off six birdies and shot even par despite a triple-bogey 7 on his final hole. He enters the final round with a two stroke lead over Scott Sirois (The Woodlands Club), who won this event in 2009. Sitting tied for third are John Hayes (Sable Oaks GC) and Tobey Buteau (Willowdale GC), who carded 76.
Play will resume tomorrow morning at 8:00 for the final MSGA championship of the season.
