Johnson Wins NEWGA Championship
Shannon Johnson from Massachusetts continued her fantastic play this summer by coming to The Woodlands Club to claim the NEWGA Championship. Johnson shot a three-day total of 214 (-2) to finish as the only player in the field to break par in the championship. She won the event by a five stroke margin over fellow Bay Stater Hannah Ghelfi, whose impressive score of 219 (+3) was ten strokes clear of third place finisher Sophie Dipetrillo.
Maine's top finisher was Bailey Plourde (Samoset Resort GC). Plourde finished tie for 8th, all while improving every day on the difficult Falmouth course. She shot 87-80-77--244 (+28) for the championship.
The NEWGA Championship is a 54-hole event that is contested annually in one of the six New England states, with hosting duties rotating among the states every six years.
