Natanis Team Claims Metropolitan Championship
The MSGA women held their Metropolitan Club Championship at Turner Highlands GC on June 25-26. A total of 256 players participated over the 2-day event.
The first day was a miserable mix of cool temperatures, drizzle, hard rain, and thunder and lightning with a few steamy, sunny moments in between. In spite of the challenging weather, the women had a great day with impressive competition.
A mixed club team of Pennie Cummings, Lori Frost, Leslie Guenther, and Kristin Kannegieser had the lowest gross finish of the two-day tournament with a 62. The Turner Highlands team of Prudence Hornberger, Mia Hornberger, Darby Shaw and Bambi Stevens finished with a 68 gross on day one, which set the bar for the second day and the coveted title. The Springbrook team of Holly Cooper, Rachel Newman, Carmen Cohen, and Jean Pratt took first net with a 51 on Monday.
The second day of competition was a beautiful sunny summer day which bode well for some fine scoring. Low Net of 52 for the day was shared by the Turner Highlands team of Heidi, Ruby, Jade Haylock and Karen Richardson and the Natanis team of Annette Charest, Madeline Kilmister, Peggy Cummings and Carole Chick.
The tournament produced a three-way tie for the championship trophy, up for grabs for teams that were comprised of four players from the same club. In addition to the Turner Highlands team from Monday’s competition, The Woodlands team of Laurie Hyndman, Cecily Whiting, Cathy Keeley, Lisa Carew and the Natanis team of Dana Swanson, Darlene Soboleski, Jean Cassidy and Arlene Davis shot 68 gross.

Per the tournament rules, a match of cards was needed to break the three-way tie, with the team from Natanis winning the 2018 Metropolitan Club Championship due to the lowest team back nine. Congrats, ladies, and thanks to all for a wonderful event!
