Arsenault, Jr. Medalist at Biddeford-Saco Qualifier

Jun 13, 2019

SACO – Mike Aresenault, Jr. hasn’t had his amateur status back for long, but he made the most of his return to the amateur ranks, leading 101 players at today’s qualifier at Biddeford-Saco CC. Arsenault, Jr., who plays out of Val Halla GC, had a brief stint as a club pro over the past few years before regaining his amateur status last fall. The southpaw led all qualifiers at today’s event, firing 69 (-2) in the first group of the day.

Zach Golojuch was the only other player to break par today, shooting 70 (-1) at his home club of Biddeford-Saco CC. Jace Pearson (Martindale CC) finished third with a 71 (E).

The day started with clear skies and abundant sunshine, but as the day progressed players battled heavy rain at times and gusting winds that made the course play difficult. In all, 29 players earned a berth in next month’s Maine Amateur Championship. The cut for today’s qualifier fell at 78, with Brett Kapteina getting the last spot in the field on a match of cards.

This year’s championship proper, to be held on July 9-11, will be the 100th playing of the event and marks the 14th time that Portland CC has hosted the championship.
