Kannegiesers Cruise to Victory at Mixed Championship
KENNEBUNKPORT – Will and Kristin Kannegieser have had plenty of close calls in recent years in the annual Mixed Championship, but in 2018 the mother and son duo from Minot easily won their first title. Playing at Cape Arundel GC under clear blue skies, the Martindale members had a clean card with no bogeys en route to a score of 65 (-4) to win by five strokes. Finishing in solo second place at one-over par 70 were Bill and Micki Meggison, who played well in their title defense after winning at Rockland GC the year before.
Playing in a modified alternate shot format, the Kannegiesers got things going early when Will holed out from 110 yards on the fifth hole for an eagle. They added two more birdies on holes 8 and 11 to get to four-under par, the same score they finished at after closing with seven consecutive pars. The Kannegiesers had been close in years past, finishing third the last two years in this event, and sixth in 2015.
On the net side, two teams tied with a score of 60 (-9). Greg and Nancy Bither of Biddeford-Saco CC shared low net honors with Mark and Merideth Koerner of Val Halla GC.
