Hyndman Claims Women's Senior Title
The Maine Women's Senior Championship began over a week ago at Brunswick GC on September 15 with 148 seniors vying for the title. At the end of regulation, five golfers remained tied atop the leaderboard, and a sudden death playoff began in the waning sunlight. After two playoff holes, three golfers had been eliminated, and the two left standing couldn't play any more golf due to darkness.
The two golfers, Laurie Hyndman (The Woodlands) and Melissa Johnson (Martindale), looked at their schedules and found the only time that worked to resume the playoff was a week in the future. Thus the longest playoff in MSGA history was set, with the two returning to continue the MSGA Women’s Senior battle at Brunswick GC on Wednesday, September 23, eight days after the playoff started.
Neither player was ready to make the win an easy one. After a bit of a struggle for both on the first hole, both players showed their mettle with solid shots and putting on #2 and #3. On the 4th hole of sudden death, Laurie managed to grab the title with some skillful play after an errant tee shot. This is Laurie’s second Senior title after an 18-year gap. Congratulations to both women for an exciting and memorable championship!
