MAINE STATE GOLF ASSOCIATION, INC. VOLUNTEER DUTIES LIST
The mission of the Maine State Golf Association, Inc. is to represent, promote and serve the best interest of amateur golf in Maine. To this effect, the MSGA cannot accomplish its mission without the help of volunteers, who are so important to our success.
In an effort to make volunteering with the MSGA a pleasurable, meaningful experience, we have formulated the following duties list for various volunteer positions. Please note that USGA training is required for rules officials and course raters. In addition to the specific items in the duties lists for (click on name for description) Course Raters, Pace of Play Monitor, Starter, Scoring Official, Forecaddie, Rules Official, volunteers should be aware that they may want to bring the following items with them to a tournament:
Sunscreen, umbrella, rain gear, folding chair, water bottle, comfortable walking shoes (should not be golf shoes), light snacks. Volunteers are also asked not to bring cell phones onto the golf course. Volunteers in our championship events are also asked to wear khaki shorts or pants with a white shirt. Hats are also a good idea, as they can be used to help spot the golf ball. The MSGA will provide lunch to all volunteers working shifts of four hours or more, and we will try and make sure that you have adequate refreshments as well, but bringing your own water bottle is a good idea. The MSGA will also provide hats to all volunteers who work a total of eight hours or more in a season, and white volunteer shirts to those who work 20 hours or more. Rules officials will be provided with special blue shirts that will designate you as a tournament official.
