In the best interest of promoting amateur golf in Maine, the Maine State Golf Association, Inc. has a fund to help reimburse expenses to players who qualify for USGA championships. Due to a change in the USGA Amateur Status regulations two years ago, all amateur players competing in championships are now eligible for reimbursement of certain expenses, including travel costs, meals and tournament costs.
In order to be eligible for reimbursement, the player must complete the appropriate expense reimbursement form and submit it, along with receipts, to the Maine State Golf Association, Inc., the governing body for amateur status in the state. The MSGA will then review expenses and then reimburse the player for expenses if revenues are available to do so, under guidelines set by the USGA.
In order to make more revenues available, the MSGA is accepting donations to be used exclusively for USGA Championship reimbursement – for all USGA championships, including the Men’s and Women’s State Team events. Players can use cash, checks or voucher money to make the donations, and can designate whether the donation is to be used for men’s championships, women’s championships or either. Once a donation is received, it is non-refundable. In the event that more donations are received than expenses warrant, the money will be held in escrow for future championships.
If a person desires to give a cash donation of more than $300 and would like to have excess money returned, they must complete the USGA’s Donor form. For money less than $300 received, it will also be held in escrow for future championships. For all other contributions, donors are asked to complete the MSGA Donor form for our records.
Thank you for your continued interest in amateur golf, and for promoting the best golf Maine has to offer. |
