Maine Amateur Championship Qualifier at Biddeford Saco Results
David Torres went out in the first group at the Maine Amateur qualifier at Biddeford-Saco CC, and his score of 70 (-1) held up against the rest of the field for the remainder of the day to earn medalist honors. Torres, who plays out of Dutch Elm GC, finished his round eagle-birdie to post the only under par score of the event. Torres had four birdies and an eagle on his day, offset by two bogeys and a triple bogey on 13.
In all, 37 players made the cut to advance to the championship proper. The cut for this qualifier fell at 80, with a match of cards determining Zach Rossignol as the only player to make it through on that number. The MSGA is celebrating its centennial this year and is proud to be hosting the Maine Amateur Championship at Brunswick GC, one of the association’s founding member clubs back in 1917.
Today’s event was the first of three qualifying tournaments to get into the Maine Amateur Championship. The next event is at Poland Spring GC on June 20, followed by the third and final qualifier at Penobscot Valley CC on June 22. At that time, the 132 player field will be set for 98th Maine Amateur on July 11-13.
