Tournament Opportunities for Junior Golfers

Local Tournaments

We will post whatever tournaments we hear about at the local level here on our site. However, don’t hesitate to contact the courses in your area to inquire if they offer any tournaments to junior golfers. Give them a call, pros and course employees love trying to help out junior golfers!

Maine State Golf Association

About: The MSGA offers local tournaments throughout the state. Tournaments run from late June until mid-August. Players compete in one of five age divisions: Boys 15-17, Boys 13-14, Girls 15-17, Girls 13-14, and a coed 12 & under division. Focus is more on gaining competitive experience than results. The tournament season features the Maine Junior Championship where the state champions are determined.

Costs: $10 to join the MSGA; $25 per tournament

Southern Maine Women's Golf Association and Women's Maine State Golf Association

About: The two governing bodies of women's golf in Maine, the SMWGA and WMSGA run tournaments throughout the  year. Junior Golfers are encouraged to play in their events, often for free. Click above to view the Associations' respective websites.

US Kids Golf

About: US Kids Golf Local Tours are created to provide boys and girls, ages 5 to 14, the opportunity to advance their golf skills in age-appropriate competition. In  2017 Maine will have its own local tour.

Costs: $40 to join; $35-45 per tournament

Regional and National Tournaments

New England PGA Junior Tour

About: The NEPGA is the branch of the PGA of America that oversees golf and its professionals in New England. It offers a separate tour devoted exclusively to junior tournaments. They offer more than 100 events throughout New England in a competitive environment and at top-notch golf courses. Their “elite” events even offer points for AJGA events and for nationwide exposure to potential college recruits.

Costs: $125 to join; $30-40 per tournament

Location: All around New England

United States Challenge Cup

About: The Challenge Cup is a year-long series of tournaments aimed at the more talented junior golfer. The events get national exposure and feature strong and talented fields of players. Some of their events are stand-alone tournaments, while some serve as qualifiers for prestigious national championships.

Costs: $85 to join; $45-$150 per tournament (check schedule)

Location: All around New England

American Junior Golf Association

About: The AJGA is the preeminent junior golf tour in the United States. The tour has nationwide events and features the best junior golfers in the country. Events can be hard to get into, but most have qualifiers through which golfers can earn spots. College coaches follow the AJGA closely to recruit players to play collegiately.

Costs: $95-285 to join; $210-360 per tournament
