Education & Instruction

We are very lucky in Maine to have a vibrant First Tee Program, which also hosts the National School Program, an introductory program for golf taught at various elementary schools statewide. The First Tee provides young people with character-building and life skills lessons using golf as the platform. Through The First Tee, young people discover how skills essential to success on a golf course can also help them flourish in life.

The golf professionals of the Maine Chapter of the New England PGA are the main source for direct golf instruction in Maine. Teaching professionals at clubs from York to Fort Fairfield introduce young golfers to the basics of golf and help them to develop their games.

Local recreation departments and other community organizations often partner with PGA professionals to offer beginning golf programs in many communities.

For more information about learning how to play golf or junior programs in your area, contact your local golf course or your town’s recreation department. A complete list of statewide golf clubs is contained on this site.

The Maine State Association offers educational programs for the following:

  • Rules of Golf and Golf Etiquette
  • Golf Handicapping
  • Care of the Golf Course
  • Pace of Play

To schedule a golf educational seminar for your group, team or club, please email nancy@mesga.org for more information.

We encourage you to make the most of all golf in Maine has to offer, especially for our junior players – it’s the game of a lifetime!
