2007 Charlie's Maine Open

Todd Westfall of Clendenin, West Virginia first came to Maine a few years ago to compete in the Charlie's Maine Open Championship at River. Just out of Marshall University in Virginia, he was in contention to win the championship, but the third round was cancelled due to four inches of rain that fell the night before. Since Westfall was tied with then amateur Shawn Warren, it was determined a four hole playoff would be held to name a winner. Warren -- who also attended Marshall -- made about a 30-foot putt on the last hole to win the overall championship. While Westfall took home the low pro money, Warren took home the crystal.

Thursday at the beautiful Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn, Westfall finished the job and was awarded the crystal. Despite a three-putt bogey on the 18th hole, he remained in the lead, shooting 70 in the final round for a 212 total. Jerry Diphilippo of Gorham, Mark Baldwin of Laconia, NH, and Rick Parker of Lebanon, NH, tied for second with a 213. Warren's bogey on the 17th hole put him just out of the second place tie, as he finished with a 214.

Fox Ridge host pro Bob Darling, Jr., actually took home the most crystal and he finished at even par 216 to win both the Maine Pro Division and the Davis Richardson Senior Division. Meanwhile, Toby Spector of Waterville finished as the low amateur, also at even par.

Winning the Davis Richardson Senior Amateur Division was Gary Manoogian of Falmouth Country Club.
