2015 Match Play Championship Wrap-Up
Andrew Slattery took advantage of his home club knowledge to edge Jeff Cole 2&1 and take home the 2015 Match Play Invitational Championship crystal.
The match was close all the way, with Slattery bogeying the first hole to go one down out of the gate. Cole reciprocated by bogeying the 3rd hole and the match was back to all square. Another bogey by Cole on the 5th hole gave Slattery the lead again which he never relinquished. Slattery did let Cole back in for a bit with a bogey on hole 8 and the match remained all square until a bogey by Cole on the par-3 11th.
A birdie on the 591 yard 12th by Slattery gave him a 2-up lead and he hung on from there. Cole did get back to within one when he birdie the par-4 16th, but Slattery followed with a birdie of his own on the 17th hole to close out the match.
The MSGA wishes to thank all the competitors, volunteers and Martindale staff in making this one of the most enjoyable events in our busy championship schedule.
Final Round Notes:
Jeff Cole and Andrew Slattery have advanced to the finals of the 2015 Match Play Invitational Championship. Cole finished his semi-final match first, after easily taking out Luke Ruffing 6&4. Slattery had a tougher time of dispatching Joe Walp, going 20 holes and finally winning with a birdie on the 20th hole.
Slattery, last year's Maine Amateur Champion, and Cole, the 2014 Match Play runner-up will go at it again in the 18 hole final Thursday morning at 7:00am.

2014 Match Play Championship Wrap-Up
Jeff Cole played steady golf but unfortunately ran into the hot sticks of Ricky Jones in the final of the Maine Match Play Championship Thursday.
Jones had four birdies and just one bogey -- on nine, the only hole Cole was able to win -- en route to the championship.
With Jones going three up on the front, Cole cut the lead to two at the turn, but Jones proceeded to win the next three holes, putting Cole at a significant disadvantage. After both players parred the par 3 13th, Jones sealed the win with a birdie on 14, making the final score 6 and 4.
Thanks to Sable Oaks for hosting this event. Despite the weather issues, it was a true test of golf for this MSGA championship.
